Is the hill climb in Socorro doable on a CX bike? I completed the "24 Hours in the Old Pueblo" race without any major issues and want to take advantage of the climbing capabilities in Socorro on a CX bike if possible.

What size/tread should I use on the Socorro Hill Climb? Would a fast tire work or should I go for something with a little tread?

Good question. The road is primarily smooth hardpack, with some loose stuff ocaisionally. This is based on conditions last year, that could change a bit through the winter snows and plowing of the road. People will be riding the course as the snowpack clears, and there is usually a course condition posted somewhere, a week or two before the event.
I've ridden it twice, and have never seen muddy conditions either, but that could easily change with the weather, as race day approaches.

We had some other things to do that day.

This late response is brought to you by the makers of "SPAM", the website type, not the great meaty snack we've all come to love.
South Baldy is a good CX bike climb. The road is hardpack, with minimal gravel. Thinner tires do prevail over the fatter typical mtb rubber.
Awesome, doing the 24 on a cxer!
